The Town of Grabouw

The directions to Grabouw will lead you through the Overberg to a town that is lazily spread along the N2 near Sir Lowry's Pass. Located near the Palmiet River in the fertile Elgin Valley, Grabouw is surrounded by the Hottentots Holland and Groenland mountains to the north, and the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve to the south.

Grabouw is well-known for its cultivation of apples and is notably the ‘birthplace’ of South Africa’s most famous fizzy apple soft drink. This agricultural region is responsible for a large percentage of the country’s apple exports as well as the cultivation of pears, plums and other deciduous fruit. More recently, the town has gained a name for its viticulture and the area boasts thriving wine farms and is popular with tourists and day-trippers looking for things to do in Grabouw.

Visitors are in for a treat because Grabouw has something to offer the whole family. A fun 8-hole mashie golf course, an adventure park, hiking trails, quad bike routes, canopy tours and an apple museum are just a few things the area has to offer.

Grabouw’s farm stalls have become a traditional stopping point for travellers on the N2 and offer an abundance of home-grown, home-baked and homemade produce and products. The restaurants in Grabouw range from bistros and coffee shops to upmarket eateries in wine estates.

The once strictly farming community has grown and now includes residents from all walks of life. Somerset West, Caledon and Hermanus are all close enough for people to commute to their place of business and back without experiencing too much traffic congestion.

The property market in Grabouw offers a choice of investment opportunities. Real estate agents in Grabouw have a huge database of properties that includes agricultural land, commercial buildings and residential houses.

For those needing a place to call home for a few days, there is accommodation in Grabouw to suit just about everyone's style and budget. A cosy old world hotel, comfortable country houses and cosy B&Bs offer everything you will need to make your stay in Grabouw pleasant and memorable.
